Authority marks Mazingira Day 2025 through tree planting

The Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority (PBORA) today joined millions of Kenyans across the country in celebrating this year’s Mazingira Day in Ngong Forest, Kajiado County.

The Authority, in partnership with Hatch Technologies, took part in a tree planting exercise where over 140 tree seedlings were planted in accordance with this year’s theme: Citizen-centric tree growing and environmental stewardship.

The PBORA team was led by Ms. Joyce Naisiala, the Director of Corporate Services, who praised the partnership between the Authority and Hatch Technologies emphasizing that the Authority is committed to the principles of environmental stewardship through conservation.

“We are an environmentally conscious state corporation fully committed to our collective national responsibility of environmental conservation for our very own existence and for the future generations. Mazingira Day is a day for us to renew our efforts in forest restoration and increase our tree cover as a sustainable means of combating climate change and protecting our future,” she said.

Ms. Naisiala further pointed out that today’s exercise, although modest, is a crucial contribution to the ambitious national drive of planting 15 billion trees by the year 2032 to achieve a greener and cleaner environment for all Kenyans. This drive was launched in December 2022 with the goal of increasing the national tree cover from 12% to 30% while improving livelihoods, reducing deforestation, and combating climate change.
