Summary of registering a National/ International PBO
The following are key steps in registering a PBO: Click here to Register
- Applicants submit three names in order of priority,once a name is available it is reserved.
- The PBO must draft a constitution guided by the prototype constitution provided on the PBORA website for reference and guidance.
- The following are mandatory articles in the constitution,name article(as per the name reserved) , main and specific objectives,financial year (calendar year Jan-Dec) and a precisely worded dissolution clause as provided for in the prototype constitution.

- Article 1 : Name of the Organization is ( Insert the reserved name of the organization)
- Article 2 : Main objective of the organization( this describes in totality the reason you are registering as a PBO)
- Article 3:Specific objective of the organization describes the actual strategy or activities a PBO engages in order to achieve its main objective the relationship must be direct.
- Article 4: Financial Year (The financial year shall be the calendar year eg Jan- Dec every year)
- Article 5: Dissolution clause (copy this exactly as it appears in the prototype without making changes to the wording)
- The application is submitted with the completed constitution,minutes,one year proposed budget, application forms filled on eCitizen, passport photos, police clearance certificate, passport photos uploaded, and payment of the prescribed fee.
- PBORA examines the application to confirm that all requirements are met, the main objective captures a clear charitable purpose and targeted beneficiaries.
- Once approved, PBORA registers the PBO as a Public Benefit Organization and issues a certificate of registration.
- The certificate serves as legal proof of the PBO’s existence and authorizes it to operate within Kenya.
