Professional Profile

Hon. Adan Haji Ali is a seasoned public-sector leader and strategic adviser with more than 28 years of experience spanning governance, policy reform, hospitality management, legislative development and institutional leadership.

He was appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 1226, dated 24 July 2026.

Public Leadership and Legislative Experience

Before joining the Authority, Hon. Ali served as Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority from June 2025, providing strategic oversight to Kenya’s national energy and petroleum regulator.

He served as the Member of Parliament for Mandera South Constituency from 2017 to 2022. During his parliamentary tenure, he chaired the Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Irrigation and later the Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.

In these roles, he guided important legislative and policy reforms, including the Warehouse Receipts Systems Act, 2019, and contributed to the establishment of the National Irrigation Authority.

County Government and Hospitality Experience

Earlier in his public-service career, Hon. Ali served as County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Investment and ICT in Kwale County from 2013 to 2017.

He also held senior hospitality leadership positions, including serving as General Manager of Baobab Beach Resort & Spa in Diani.
